  3. Jacob Miller and wife Elizabeth came to Allen Co. approximately 1808 from Rockingham Co. VA by way of Penn. Of their many children was a son Jesse who married Elizabeth Woolery and of their many children was a son Jesse J Miller born Feb. 11, 1845. Both of Jesse J’s parents and many relatives died in the cholera outbreak of the late 1840s and Jesse becomes a ward of a John Sakemiller. In August 1861 Jesse and friend Amos Nihiser( also an orphan) join the 81st Ohio Vol Infantry. Amos dies at Corinth Miss., Jesse returns at the end of the war and in 1866 he marries Amos’s sister Eliza Anna Nihiser. They will have 7 children, 3 boys and 4 girls. One of the sons is William Barton Miller (my grandfather) who marries Nellie Alspach daughter of Sebastian Alspach and Mary Brundage. I am looking for any additional information on these people, especially William.
    Thanks,
    Ray Miller rpmiller62@verizon.net

  5. I am writing a dissertation exploring the real estate "bubble" in northwest Ohio during the 1830s. As part of the project I am working with public records (especially tax lists, grantor/grantee indexes). I am planning a trip to Allen County/Lima later this Spring. If anyone can tell me if the Genealogy Society or the Public Library have any records that might be of help to me, I'd be glad to hear from them!
